Phelps Mansion
The home was built in 1861. It is known as the Phelps Mansion, referencing to its resident George Phelps. He was instrumental in many of Decorah's early businesses. After his death he left to the city of Decorah, Phelps Park and Phelps Cemetery. Both his wife and son are buried in this cemetery.
In the 1930's the home was converted to five stately units. It remains in this arrangement today.
Bruce & Kaleen Hanson ( owners )
We purchased this historic mansion in January 2015. We set out to renovate and save one of Decorah's historic properties. We spent a great deal of time focusing on the little details to keep as much "original" character of the home. We would love to have you stay in one of our Suites and enjoy the history of this amazing property.
